June 25, 2025 – Mill Creek Fire Company was alerted to a serious motor vehicle crash in the 3900 block of Newport Gap Pike near the intersection of Graves Road at 1:52 PM. The initial report indicated the crash involved a pickup truck and a tractor trailer.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found the driver of the pickup truck trapped with serious injuries. Extrication was completed in eight minutes, and the driver was transported to the Christiana Hospital emergency room by Mill Creek Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics. Mutual aid was received from Hockessin and Cranston Heights Fire Companies.
The Belvedere Fire Company’s HAZMAT unit was requested for a fuel spill and to assist DNREC with the collection of over 150 gallons of diesel fuel. DELDOT also responded to assist fire police with traffic control. Both north and southbound lanes of Newport Gap Pike were closed for an extended period of time. Mill Creek Fire Company Deputy Chief Joe Stewart placed the scene under control at 2:21 PM. Units cleared the scene at 3:53 PM.
