The GMC/John Bean – 21-1 was a highly capable firefighting apparatus, designed for efficient water and high-pressure firefighting operations. Equipped with a 500-gallon tank and a 750 gpm FMC volume pump, this engine was built for significant water delivery. It also featured a 30 gpm, 850 psi John Bean high-pressure pump, providing the ability to deliver high-pressure streams for more focused firefighting needs.
Powered by a 401 cu in. V6 gasoline engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, 21-1 offered the power and control needed for a wide range of fireground situations. In service from 1964 to 1981, this engine was a valuable asset to the department, handling both volume firefighting and high-pressure tasks with efficiency during its years of operation. It remains a significant part of the department’s history, having served reliably for nearly two decades.
