William Stewart Sr.

William G. Stewart Sr., of Pike Creek Valley, passed away on March 29, 2014. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late William B. and Lillian (White) Stewart. Bill graduated from the old Wilmington High School in 1944 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably during World War II in the Pacific Arena, primarily in the Philippines.

In 1950, Bill began his career with ICI Americas, where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1986. After moving to Marshallton in 1955, Bill joined the Mill Creek Fire Company, where he became a proud Life Member and served on the Board of Directors. He cherished the camaraderie of his fellow members and was always eager to join in a card game.

In 1985, Bill married Betty Tucker, and the couple moved to Lady Lake, FL. Following Betty’s passing in March 2008, Bill returned to Delaware to be closer to family and friends.
