January 2, 2024 – Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire in the 4500 block of Kirkwood Highway near Limestone Road.   The 3:52 AM dispatch also brought assistance from Christiana, Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Five Points and Minquas Fire Companies.   Firefighters arrived within two minutes of the dispatch to find smoke coming from the roof.    A working fire was declared by Deputy Chief Joe Stewart.  

Over twenty-five fighters battled the blaze.   The interior of the store was heavily damaged by fire.  The fire was contained to the one store in the strip shopping center.
 

One person was transported to the hospital.  The Delaware State Police and Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control due to hose lines on the Kirkwood Highway.  The New Castle County Paramedics also responded. 

The fire was placed under control at 4:24 AM.  All units cleared at 5:43 AM.
