At 08:55 AM, the Mill Creek Fire Company, along with mutual aid, was dispatched to the 3800 block of Hutchinson Road for a reported structure fire. While units were en route, additional reports indicated a victim was trapped inside the residence.

EMS 21 arrived on the scene, reporting fire showing from a two-story, single-family dwelling. Engine 21 arrived as the “First Due” engine, securing its own water supply and stretching a handline for an immediate fire attack.

Simultaneously, primary search operations were initiated. The crew from Tower 16 located a victim on the first floor and removed them from the structure. The patient was treated on-scene and transported in critical condition by BLS Unit A-2 and New Castle County ALS (Medic 7). A second patient was evaluated and transported with minor injuries.

Crews remained on the scene for over an hour before the incident was placed under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

21-8B held the Mill Creek Command.
