Pike Creek Valley – At 2:32 AM on Sunday November 24, 2013 Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a townhouse fire in the 3200 Block of Champions Drive, Fairway Falls. Responding apparatus were advised of several calls reporting a fire in the rear of the above address. As fire equipment from Mill Creek, Hockessin and Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder arrived on the scene heavy fire had engulfed the rear of a group of townhomes.

With the temperature in the mid 20’s and wind gusts of over 20 MPH, 60 firefighters battled the blaze that destroyed two homes and caused damage to three other units. The fire was so intense the second floor collapsed into the first floor of one of the units.

The fire displaced four families and only one firefighter received minor injuries. The fire was escalated to a working alarm which brought in assistance from Cranston Heights, Minquas, Belvedere and Elsmere Fire Companies. New Castle County paramedics responded to the scene along with several ambulances from nearby fire stations.

The fire was declared under control two hours later and firefighters remained on the scene until 6:00 AM. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
