Lithium-ion batteries pose severe fire, explosion, and toxic gas hazards due to their highly flammable, energy-dense materials. When compromised by physical damage, overcharging, or manufacturing defects, these batteries can enter an uncontrollable self-heating state known as thermal runaway
Primary Safety Hazards
    • Thermal Runaway: An explosive chemical chain reaction that causes temperatures to spike to 2,000°F within milliseconds.
    • Reignition Risks: Extinguished batteries can unexpectedly reignite minutes, hours, or even days later unexpectedly.
    • Toxic Gas Emissions: Burning cells release deadly vapor clouds containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen fluoride, and hydrogen cyanide.
    • Infectious Failure: An overheating battery cell can violently explode and rapidly spread intense flames to adjacent cells or devices. 

Common Triggers
  • Physical Abuse: Crushing, dropping, puncturing, or heavy vibrations.
  • Electrical Stress: Overcharging or using uncertified, mismatched chargers.
  • Environmental Exposure: Storing devices in extreme heat, such as direct sunlight or inside hot vehicles
